English Resources

Description of Project:
NETS*S Addressed:
Bloom's Taxonomy:

I currently have three English classes (10th, 11th, and 12th grade) that are working on an inventions project to showcase their understanding of Daniel Pink's book A Whole New Mind. The students were asked to work in groups to create a mock corporation, market a product for that corporation, and detail the success story in order to show their understanding of Pink's right-brain 21st century skills (empathy, meaning, play, symphony, design, and story).

For this project, technology will be used in a few different ways. Each group will set up a GoogleGroup to communicate and share files and each corporation needs to film a 3-5 minute infomercial to market their product. Ultimately, we also hope to share the best products with Daniel Pink via Skype at the end of the project (which is something that he actually suggested himself!).

We have several teachers who have students use Inspiration to organize research. They make a web to show their paper's organization and then put
their sources (links pasted in)and notes into the symbol's notes as they do their research. What is nice is that they end up with a nice outline of
their paper with all of the sources when they go to the outline view. It seems to work nicely and gives those students who are a bit disorganized or
more visual a way to cope with such a large project. It is also easy for teachers to do a quick check on progress as they move through the process.
